Description: Participants in this webinar will discuss the latest regulatory guidelines for obstetric and neonatal prehospital training. The team will examine the features and functions of the Avbirth that highlight its versatility in teaching the prehospital interventions necessary to manage presentations such as preeclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, and neonatal resuscitation. Participants will learn how to assess the impact of wearable simulators on learning outcomes, including knowledge retention, skill acquisition, and field preparedness. Come along with Amy Cowperthwait, a seasoned professional in healthcare simulation, and Chris Kroboth, an authority in EMS, to discuss how simulation-based education in obstetrics can lead to improved patient safety, reduce maternal-fetal complications, and enhance the confidence and competence of EMS professionals.
Objectives:
1. Discuss the latest EMS accreditation competencies related to obstetric emergencies.
2. Identify how the versatility of the wearable obstetric simulator can facilitate a multitude of common and not so common obstetric simulations.
3. Assess the Educational Impact of Wearable Simulators on Patient Safety and Quality of Care
Chris Kroboth M.S., FP-C:
Chris has been a career Paramedic/Firefighter for over 18 years and in EMS for over 24. He has been in pre-hospital and in-hospital education for the past 18 years. His last assignment before returning to operations was as the EMS Training Captain in charge of continuing education programs and certification. He is the US Clinical Education Manager for iSimulate and also facilitates National Conference Clinical Challenges to include EMS World, ENA and NTI.
Amy Cowperthwait CEO, RN, MSN, CNS, CHSE-A:
Starting as an ER nurse, Amy found her niche when transitioning to simulation at the University of Delaware. After a trach simulation had gone awry, Amy’s goal became to develop a solution to add the human element to challenge the standards of simulation. Three years of research and development culminated in the formation of Avkin in 2015. Since then, she has continued to be an innovator in the field of healthcare education.
