Starting as an ER nurse, Amy Cowperthwait found her niche when transitioning to simulation at the University of Delaware. After a trach simulation had gone awry, Amy’s goal became to develop a solution to add the human element to challenge the standards of simulation. Three years of research and development culminated in the formation of Avkin in 2015. Since then, she has continued to be an innovator in the field of healthcare education.
Amy has co-authored several academic papers. She’s appeared as a guest on healthcare education podcasts, and most notably was a guest on the Dr. Oz Show in October 2018. In addition to her responsibilities as CEO, Amy has also been a keynote speaker for industry conventions and gatherings.

Megan has mentored several institutions as they are starting or improving outcomes with their standardized patient program. Megan has been an invited speaker to present her work regionally, nationally, and internationally in excellence in SP methodology and co-authored a chapter in Defining Excellence in Simulation Programs Second Edition.
